XBOX ELITE CONTROLLER LB/RB FAULT AND FIX

Updated: Jan 21, 2022

We’ve all been there, one minute we are gaming and having fun. Next thing we know is the LB or RB button is broken which is an essential button for the majority of games such as Call of Duty or Halo. The reason this issue occurs is the LB/RB bumper bracket is one long piece of plastic. Over time the pressure of pushing the buttons cause the bracket to snap and one or both of your buttons will come loose or fall out altogether. Follow the step-by-step guide to fix this issue.

Xbox Elite Controller

To fix the controller, you will need the following:

· A new LB/RB bumper trigger

· A T6 screwdriver

· A T8 screwdriver

You can get the repair kit here for £9.99.

Step By Step Repair Guide:

1. Remove the battery pack from the back of the controller

Xbox Elite Controller Battery Pack

2. Remove the Serial number sticker from the controller battery pack area

3. Underneath this sticker is a screw, unscrew it and keep it safe

4. Gently prise both side sections off the remote (These will be tight so take your time not to snap anything)

Xbox Elite Controller Back

5. There are two screws under each controller grip we removed in the step above. Remove these screws

6. Remove the analogues grips and D-pad

7. You can now lift the front of your controller off and see what’s underneath

8. Remove the bottom section of both analogues and the 2-mode switch button

9. You will now see the grey cover that is around the Xbox logo at the top of the remote. This should just pop off

10. You can now add the new LB/RB buttons to the back of the small grey cover you just removed

Time to rebuild the controller!

1. Press the new button bracket back onto the controller. Ensure you can push both triggers in, if you can they will be rubbing off the bottom controller cover and you can slightly move this

2. You can now clip the analogue bottoms back on (don’t forget the 2-mode switch)

3. Next you can place the front controller face back onto the controller

4. Now flip the controller over and screw the 4 screws back into the side panels of the controller

5. You can then clip both hand grip covers back on to the sides of the controller

6. Screw the final screw back into the battery holder area and re-add your battery pack

7. Finally, replace the analogue tops and D-pad back onto the controller

That’s it! You’ve fixed your controller. If you’d like to follow a tutorial on how to do this, click here.
